iPhone and groceries
Good morning, all. First off I have to say that I am getting a little annoyed at the antenna issues plaguing Apple’s new iPhone 4. Here I am at the local grocery store in Berwick, PA following my wife around and checking my feeds (oh and no 3G coverage here AT&T!) while she helps her uncle shop for his groceries. I keep looking at the 2 bars I have left (next to the ever present E) and I am reminded that I have to hold the iPhone differently or wait on my bamboo case to arrive.

Since I was young I’ve always been physically active and riding around on my mountain bike. But as the years pass, carriers and lifestyles change, I’ve had to give up a lot of things that I used to do that kept me physically fit without doing much. June 9th I’ll be turning 35 (sort of a mile-marker in my life) which means I’m 34 now while I’m writing this. I am an IT Manager of a cruise ship and a lot of my time is spent sitting in a chair in a cold climate controlled data center. If I’m not at my desk then I’m either in a meeting or at some inspection. There’s also lots of food onboard the ship to eat and lets be honest here, I love food. I love food and I think food is great. There are so many tastes, textures, and smells to them that are so appealing. They give you so many different kinds of pleasures, experiences, and most of which are satisfying. It’s when you over indulge that it hurts. Onboard there is Johnny Rockets, an Italian restaurant called Portofino’s, a fabulous steak restaurant called Chops, and not to mention room service, Cafe Promenade, various messes for the Staff and Crew onboard. There is just a vast variety of venues to eat and eat and eat.
Did you know that the average American eats 1500 lbs in a year! That’s according to the FDA. This past Christmas I had to renew my medical for the next two years because I work for a cruise line and you know what? I have high cholesterol. So 10 days ago I decided a change was in order after reading a book by LL Cool J and Dave Honig titled Platinum Workout. After reading the book from start to finish, I learned a few things, basically that I’ve been eating the wrong way and all of the wrong things.
Last week Monday I started on the same nutritional meal plan that LL Cool J and Dave Honig put together which basically sums up the number of calories that I need to intake on a daily basis. Six meals a day, about 2300 calories per day, Monday through Friday with a chance to cheat on weekends, I think I can do this. On that Monday I also picked up a few things to help me along on my quest to have a better healthier living, and body too: a cheap digital scale from Walgreens, Centrum Silver Ultra Men’s Multivitamins (A-Z kind), Flax Oil w/ Omega-3, and a small can of Planter’s NUT-rition South Beach Diet mix of … you guessed it! Nuts!
Every morning after getting ready for work, I step on the scale to weigh myself–I figured this would be the best time to check because I’ll be eating six times throughout the day. Week 1 which started last week Monday, March 29th, 2010 was just to get my nutrition and diet and eating habits in order following the plan from the book. At the start I weighed nearly 190lbs … that’s a lot from 175-178lbs that I used to be 10 years ago–but I guess that’s normal in the progression of one’s life. Anyway, I had a belly and it had to go.
Week 2 started this past Monday, April 5th, 2010 which involved doing 1 circuit of weights, training 10 different body parts: Quads, Back, Abs, Chest, Triceps, Biceps, Shoulders, and Hamstrings. On Friday I weighed in at 187.4lbs but on Monday I had brought it down a little more to 186.6lbs.
This morning I read 184.7lbs. It’s now 3:59 PM, and after a 48-hour rest, I have to go back to the gym tonight for another circuit of the same workouts. Each day I’ll try to keep you posted on my progress, my workouts, and my eating habits, and whatever else which I know you’ll be excited to hear about, right? LOL Either way it’ll help me to keep it real and stay with it through the 21 weeks of the Platinum Workout.

Motorcycle Dream Garages
Found this great book of Motorcycle Dream Garages containing various garages photographed by Lee Klancher. Can I have a Motorcycle Dream Garage?
